Sebastian Baby Wear was born out of necessity with a dash of creative frustration. I was a newly-wed and a first time Mom, with a darling 2 month old baby boy called… yip, you guessed it… Sebastian. Coming to terms with the harsh reality of motherhood, and unable to take refuge in my normal creative outlet of making jewelry, I did the next best thing … shop, shop and shopped some more. And guess what… unless you were looking for the mass produced, essential garments that a newborn needs, I found the local selection of fun, quirky and original baby wear in my town for little boys pretty sparse, uninspiring and just a little drab. It’s not all about brown and blue!!
Don’t get me wrong, there are a few great stores that offered the exception and that I spent heaps of my DH’s hard-earned cash, but everyone bought their goodies there, and my baby was super special. He needed something original… after all how hard could it possibly be and I was full of ideas and opinions of what should be out there. It is about finding something quirky and cute that expresses how you feel or a thought about your baby, and getting your baby to tell it to the world. It really doesn’t matter – it is all about having fun. I have experienced first hand that when there is a baby in the house, there is a lot of laughter. Everyone gets involved and wants to be around you and your new baby. Honestly, who doesn’t love a funny baby onesie. My printed baby onesie range was born out of necessity as well… the first one should have said: My Mum doesn’t want your advice!
Thinking back to those last couple months of pregnancy and first few weeks after his birth, well-meaning masses drove me insane with their constant ‘do this’ or ‘don’t do that’. I hear you… they only meant well, and were showing affection and care, the best way they knew how. I remember one of my cousins telling me to grit my teeth, smile and then to follow and believe in my mothering instinct. The best bit of advice in the world! I am so proud of our son because he is our miracle baby with a rainbow of characteristics and old world charm. Sebastian is a fighter, a survivor, a comic and the sunshine that has brought a constant flow of warmth and joy to our family, friends and acquaintances every day of his new life. While he may not understand the concept yet, he is the epitome and expression of unselfish love. This is the soul Sebastian Baby Wear: FUN, JOY, LAUGHTER, LOVE… but with a little hint of ATTITUDE and a dash of practicality… I am here and I am adorable… Deal with it!
